Cooking Spicy Tomato Chicken Curry

My first attempt to properly cook a dish and it did turn out pretty okaaay! Here’s a list of ingredients that would cook up a lovely meal for two:

  1. Onion x 4
  2. Ginger (size of your thumb)
  3. Garlic x 4
  4. Turmeric powder (4 table-spoon)
  5. Curry powder (4 table-spoon)
  6. Ground pepper
  7. Salt
  8. Dry chili x 5
  9. Fresh red chillies x 4 (or chili padi if u prefer it to be really spicy)
  10. Chilli paste (Blended or buy some ready-made ones from the store)
  11. Cinnamon
  12. Cloves x 3
  13. Fresh juicy tomatoes x 4 (cut into large cubes)
  14. Chicken 1/4

Marinate: Unfreeze the chicken, cut it into small-bite size pieces and marinate it with mixture of turmeric & curry powder for at least an hour.

Soak: Wash the dry chilli, ans soak them in a bowl of water for about 10 minutes. Cut them into 2 inch pieces.

Blend: Cut the onions, ginger & garlic into small chunky pieces and blend them into a thick paste. Add some water if necessary.

Add oil and let it heat for few minutes.

Pour the onion + ginger + garlic paste into the hot oil and stir for 5 – 10 minutes (till it’s slightly golden brown).

Add some pepper, chillies, cinnamon, cloves and other spices. Continue to stir for 5 minutes.

Pour in the blended chilli paste. Stir.

Add the chicken and some water. Let to cook for 5 minutes.

Add the tomatoes and dry chilies. Let to boil for 10 minutes (If you think the gravy looks a little too watery, then add some turmeric + curry powder to make it thicker.)

Finally add some salt to taste.

Keep stirring till the chicken is cooked. Try a small piece if you aren’t too sure! You can cut down on the chillies if you dont want it to be too spicy. This taste good with race or bread. Good luck trying 😀
